Field Closed Nov 14-15th

By now you should have received an email from AMA referring to a NOTAM for Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15.  If you have not, you can find the NOTAM at http://www.faa.gov/news/media/G20%20Advisory.pdf

In summary, model aviation (and other aviation) activities in the Washington (DCA) airspace are prohibited during the period

November 14, 2008 Beginning at 5:00PM and ending 10:00PM EST
November 15, 2008 Beginning at 6:00AM and ending 4:00PM EST

Accordingly, Burnett Field will be CLOSED during these times.  Since sunset occurs before the prohibition period on Friday, there is no practical effect on that day.  On Saturday, flying is permitted after 4:00pm and before sunset at 4:56pm.

There are NO EXCEPTIONS (Since this is a FAA ruling and out of our control).  The field is CLOSED as described.

Feel free to call me at 703 847 2333 if you have any questions.

Don Manson

President, NVRC

  Auction NVRC Fall Auction

The NVRC Fall auction is scheduled for Oct 26th (Sunday) at the Vienna Rec Center. Pretty much the same format as past years. Now is the time to clean out your inventory and get ready (to buy) something for the next building or flying season. As before, I need help manning the fixed price table, runners for the auctioneers, and Jack could use some help in the kitchen. Put in on your calendar and come on out and support the club.

  General Announcements Have Permits?

Have Parking Permits?

Here are some important items:

VEHICLES AT BURNETT FIELD:  As you may know, our landlord at Burnett Field now requires that NVRC members display a parking tag when on the Ticonderoga Tree Farm property.  Scott Fuller has prepared a set of parking tags and will/has placed them in the mailbox at the field.  (Thank you Scott!!)  Please take one of these on your next visit to the field and hang it from your rearview mirror when you are on the TTF property.  (Of course, you’ll not have one on the way in on your next visit).  Be sure to use our private entrance that is about 1000 feet N.E. of the original entrance.

MEETING PLACE (location change for next meeting):  Our next meeting will be at Burnett Field on September 18.  At this time of year we have normally met indoors rather than at the field.  However, I have been informed by Vienna Elementary School that we cannot meet in the school because the school will be hosting a “Parents back to school night.”  By that time of year, it will be starting to get dark during the course of a normal meeting.  It you have some sort of lantern that could be used to provide illumination during the meeting I would be thankful if you could bring it.

MEETING PLACE (for the upcoming year):  I have been informed by Vienna Elementary School that the school will be undergoing a multiyear renovation starting this fall.  For the first few months most of the work will be preparation that is needed before the serious indoor work begins.  By winter, however, much of the school will be unusable.  Although the timing is uncertain, it is likely that we will not be able to continue our meetings at V.E.S.  Compounding this problem, and the uncertainty about the availability of the school, is the introduction of a new online reservation system for Fairfax County Public Schools that will replace the “human touch” system that we are used to.  In short, we should expect that we will quickly need to find a new place to hold our monthly meetings.  Please think about options that we might consider and be prepared to discuss this at the September meeting.  I can tell you from my experience over the last couple of years that it will be difficult/impossible to find a location that does not charge a fee.

NVRC BOARD OF DIRECTORS:  It is time to select new officers and members of the Board of Directors.  The upcoming year should be a relatively easy one for the Board.  Please consider serving your club.
